Moira … ah ecstasy, deep
concentration, a love of quiet
Nature, but also kundalini
fire erupting

She took me to
an ashram on Bali –
growing distance for
three days as she immersed
herself in guru’s teaching,
then immersed herself in
guru himself

Packing my
bags, returning alone –
for all I know Moira’s still
there

Gilly … ah hummingbird of
youth, chatty, flighty, vivacious

Wondered right from the start
what made me interesting to
her. She said she loved my
writing, the solid but crazy
ideas I had, the creativity
of which she herself had none,
she said

But she found it
increasingly at parties with
others and gin and coke, abruptly
moved out to live as a foursome
with Desi, Ben and Abrah,
leaving a note that said:

IT WAS BEAUTIFUL

I keep getting annual
e-mails from different
places from Gilly the
hummingbird, and
sometimes write back
