There are some people out there who were born with lucky energy or extraordinary karma. They are the folks who always win radio contests and raffles; find money on the ground; or who always win a sum of money off of “scratcher” games at the local newsstand. Well, I am just not one of those people and never win anything that is random or based on chance. Oh how I wished I had won just one of those prizes from our traditional ‘pick a name out of the santa hat’ drawings at our yearly holiday parties at one of the last companies I worked for. Yes, I always wanted to be one of those people, but alas I am not.
But lately, I’ve figured out that I’m actually luckier than I realize sometimes. I am blessed with so many more important things in my life and it is easier for me to take a step back and appreciate it now that I have some more spare time in my life. The following is a list of things that I am blessed with or lucky to have in my life. I promise to passionately cherish these things every single day that I’m allowed to live on this earth:
I’m blessed to still have two parents that love me more than anything else in the world and take care of me, even when I won’t admit that I still need it sometimes.
I’m lucky to have a roof over my head, food in my refrigerator, and a decent automobile (an absolute necessity in Los Angeles) - despite the fact that I’ve been unemployed for almost a month now.
I am lucky to be in fairly good health with all of my limbs in tact (we often take the simplicity of this blessing for granted until we see someone on the street in a wheel chair or missing half of their arm).
I am lucky that I cannot count the number of truly loving friends (not just circumstantial acquaintances) that I’ve acquired in my life on my two hands because that number is higher than ten.
I’m lucky to have met and continue to spend time with an amazing man whose mind and soul just blow me away consistently.
I’m lucky to have grown up in a city filled with different cultures and eye-widenening, sensory experiences and feel blessed to be living in a city that offers many of the same elements that continue to feed my emotional appetite.
I am lucky to have made amazing connections in this city - an essential component to building a successful career in this city that is oversaturated with artistic wanderers and star fuckers.
I am lucky to live in a country where freedom of expression is held in the highest regard…
